Age 77 of Monroeville, formerly of Greeleyville, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 25, 2023, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 55 years to Leroy E. Mellix, Jr; loving mother of Audra Allen and Allie Mellix; and cherished grandmother of Keir Mellix and Maxwell Allen. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Easley, Ruby Holmes, Ruth (Herman) Green, Jerolyn Free, Jacquelyn Easley, and Sharon (LeRoy) Williams; and a host of friends, family, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ruby (Pendergrass) Easley; and siblings, George, Marion, Jesse, and Sarah Easley.
Barbara retired as Executive Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2000 she was named Director of the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center. Barbara truly enjoyed helping students and loved that part of her work life best and above all.
Barbara was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. If you ever had a problem or needed someone to talk to Barbara was there to help or be a listening ear. She absolutely loved gathering with her family and friends, and was especially fond of holidays. Barbara loved to read and could always be found with a newspaper, book, or magazine. She enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Barbara was caring, bright, kind, and fun. She was truly an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. until time of Funeral Service at 7:30 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Pastor Bruce Schafer will be officiating.
